In his show, Seinfeld, Jerry Seinfeld reported from a study that speaking in front of a crowd is the #1 fear of a person; death comes in second. He continued: “that means to the average person if you have to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

Well, I start off this post today arguing with myself. LOL. Actually, I did have it almost right. Michael Jackson did the background vocals for that 80's song, "I always feel like somebody's watching me."

But there is something to be said about the contents of that song. We never know who is consuming the content that we put out onto the internet.

Who do you consider your competition?

I'm sure you rattled off a few firms that you typically go up against for projects, but in today's vlog post, I ask you to transition your thinking.

Taking a break from my regularly scheduled programming, today’s vlog post highlights just two of the many lessons that hurricanes teach us. They are flexibility and humanity.

It’s a unique perspective as the rest of the world goes about their business and we are forced to take a pause from everything in our lives due to the paralysis of our City.

If you haven’t been through a hurricane, then you don’t know what it’s like to camp in your own house. It’s a weird dichotomy to put it mildly.

I am so thankful for the restoration of our household when it happened. However, I am also praying for all of my fellow Houstonians who continue to endure this weather. Please join me.

Curiosity's Role in Our Success: Self-Awareness is Only One Piece of the Puzzle

Knowledge about our hardwiring and self-awareness are important, but they are only one component of our ability to successfully connect with others.

If we don’t have curiosity that goes with it, then we don’t know how we use our “whiskers” to an advantage and also identify how they may be getting in the way.

It’s crucial that we stay present, listen, and communicate in the way that the person on the other side of the table best responds.

As I say in my latest book, we have to “Get to the relationship before we get to the ask.”
